Hyderabad: Encroachments on parks, drains, and public roads across Hyderabad continue to raise concerns, especially in the wake of recent flooding. On Monday alone, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) received 49 complaints from residents across Medchal and Ranga Reddy districts.

Complainants pointed to illegal constructions on natural drainage channels, which they say have worsened waterlogging during the monsoon. Some also alleged that land earmarked for parks and community facilities such as temples and schools has been sold off or developed for private use. Several provided documents showing sheds and buildings constructed on encroached land, some of which are now being rented out.

In Balanagar, Fatehnagar (SIE Road No. 3), residents reported that a 350-square-yard portion of a drain had been occupied with three sheds, generating rental income of about ₹1.5 lakh per month. They said the narrowing of the drain has led to repeated flooding of nearby colonies.

In Khaiser Nagar, also in Balanagar, residents alleged that an individual named Boora Raju had constructed and sold sheds over an encroached drain. Despite media coverage, no action has been taken so far, they claimed.

In Sri Surya Sai Nagar, Turkayamjal Municipality, residents said that park land marked in a 1979 layout is being claimed by an adjacent landowner. Though the GHMC sanctioned ₹18.37 lakh for its development, the land remains contested.

In Brindavan Meadows, Sahebnagar Kalan, residents reported that developers took over 230 square yards of land initially designated as park space. Meanwhile, in Shamirpet’s “My City Layout,” a boundary wall has reportedly been built across a public road, blocking access. Residents have called for its removal.

HYDRAA Additional Director Varla Papayya reviewed the complaints and forwarded them to the concerned officials in the presence of complainants, instructing them to take appropriate action.
