Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) enforcement teams have demolished unauthorized structures in the layout of the Fertilizers Corporation of India Employees’ Cooperative Housing Society near the Sandhya Convention area.

The operation included the demolition of the Sandhya Convention mini hall, along with adjacent kitchens and restrooms. Officials reported that several encroachments had been made by merging roads and parks without layout approvals. Using heavy machinery, HYDRAA dismantled unauthorized structures, removed tin-sheet fencing, and took down three G 2 iron sheds erected without permission.

The action follows complaints that buildings were constructed in a manner that obstructed access and visibility to neighboring plots. Residents alleged that public roads were being encroached upon, prompting HYDRAA to intervene.

During the Prajavani grievance session held on Monday, May 5, 2025, HYDRAA received 54 complaints, many from citizens motivated by a desire to reclaim public spaces rather than personal grievances. Additional Director of HYDRAA’s Fire Division, Varla Papayya, reviewed the submissions using satellite imagery and digital mapping tools before recommending follow-up action.

In the Medchal–Malkajgiri district, residents of Gundlapochampally Municipality reported illegal construction on 23 guntas of government land in Survey No. 136. They claimed that boundary walls and building columns were being raised without permits. Further encroachments were identified in Survey Nos. 692, 693, 701, and 717, where open spaces designated for parks under an HMDA-approved layout were allegedly being occupied. In Survey Nos. 713 to 727, locals reported that roadways were narrowed by as much as 20 feet due to unauthorized extensions.

In Kothapet village, Uppal Mandal, residents from six colonies, including Gayathri Puram, reported encroachment of 3.12 acres of land meant for public utilities. In a separate case from Fathullaguda, also in Uppal, a resident alleged manipulation of private survey numbers to claim adjoining government land.

In Nagaram Municipality’s Jalubai Kunta, Keesara Mandal, residents reported the encroachment of nearly seven acres of government land. They urged authorities to act quickly to prevent permanent loss of public property.

A major complaint also came from Manikonda Municipality in the Ranga Reddy district, where residents of Puppalaguda reported full-scale encroachment of the Bulkapur Nala. Spanning 55 kilometres, the nala is a crucial floodwater drain leading to Hussain Sagar. Locals stressed that restoring the nala could help reduce frequent flooding in surrounding colonies and called for immediate action.
