HYDRAA demolishes illegal structures near Neknampur Lake in Manikonda
Manikonda: In a major crackdown on illegal constructions, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) carried out a demolition drive at Lake View Villas in Neknampur, Manikonda, on Friday morning of January 10, 2025.
The demolitions were executed under heavy police security, following the orders of HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath.
On January 9, HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath inspected encroachments near Neknampur Lake in Manikonda, where he highlighted the need for stringent measures against illegal constructions. During the visit, Ranganath directed the removal of soil that had been dumped on the FTL of Neknampur Lake and cautioned against the blocking of canals and nalas feeding into the pond.
HYDRAA Commissioner stressed that ponds are vital natural resources and play a crucial role in maintaining the region's groundwater levels. He pointed out that the decline in groundwater levels can be avoided if the tanks are properly maintained and filled with water.
The commissioner expressed concern over the encroachment of canals and nalas, which were once vital for supplying water to the tanks. He noted that many villages have transformed into towns, leading to the encroachment and construction of buildings on the buffer zones and FTL areas of ponds.
Ranganath revealed that satellite imagery had been used to assess the current status of ponds, including the area they once covered and the extent of encroachment. He made it clear that no illegal constructions in the FTL and buffer zones would be tolerated, and these structures would be demolished.
The commissioner assured that individuals who had obtained proper permissions before the formation of HYDRAA would not face any issues. However, those who violated regulations after the formation of the authority would be penalized.
