HYDRAA calls on corporates to invest CSR funds for Hyderabad’s lake restoration
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on March 19, 2025, has unveiled a new initiative to overcome obstacles in the development of lakes within the city. The agency has called on corporate entities to contribute their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to support the project.
There are 1,025 lakes within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) area, of which 61% have been abandoned. The responsibility of preserving and developing the remaining 39% of lakes lies with the community, according to HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath.
"We are committed to removing all barriers to the development of lakes within the Outer Ring Road limits," said Ranganath. "I encourage corporates and voluntary organizations to invest their CSR funds to help make this initiative a success."
The focus, Ranganath highlighted, should go beyond beautification to include the comprehensive development of the lakes. The Commissioner met with representatives from 72 companies that are either already investing in or are interested in supporting lake development through CSR initiatives.
The meeting, which also included GHMC Additional Commissioner Killu Shivakumar Naidu, Telangana Social Impact Group CSR Wing Director Archana Suresh, and officials from HMDA, GHMC, Irrigation, and Revenue Departments, discussed the collaborative efforts required for the project.
Ranganath highlighted several key lakes in the city, including Sunnam Lake in Madhapur, Tamidikunta Lake, Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally, Uppal Nalla Cheruvu, Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet, and Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake in the Old City, which are currently undergoing full-scale development.
