HYDERABAD: A Hyderabadi woman has alleged that her US-based husband deserted her in February after taking away her passport, green card and valuables, leaving her unable to return to the United States to pursue legal action.

According to a petition submitted to external affairs minister S Jaishankar by Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesman Amjed Ullah Khan, Hana Ahmed Khan married Mohammed Zainuddin Khan, a US citizen working with the Chicago Police, in June 2022. She later joined him in Chicago in February 2024, where she claimed she was subjected to “emotional abuse, physical harassment and mental torture.”

Abandoned in Hyderabad hotel

In February 2025, her husband allegedly brought her to Hyderabad under the pretext of performing Umrah. They checked into Park Hotel, Somajiguda, on February 7. While Hana went to meet her parents, her husband vacated the hotel with all her belongings and returned to the US, the petition stated.

She subsequently lodged a complaint at Panjagutta police station, which registered a case under FIR No. 118/2025.

Appeal for intervention

Since then, Hana has been unable to contact her husband. She also approached the US Embassy in New Delhi and the US Consulate in Hyderabad, but said she did not receive any assistance.

In his letter, Amjed Ullah Khan requested the minister to intervene and urge the US authorities to grant Hana a visa so she can travel back to America and legally pursue her case.

He further sought information on any action taken in the matter.
