Hyderabad: A 24-year-old female student from Hyderabad was duped of ₹1,27,354 in an online scam involving fake job and investment offers circulated via the messaging app Telegram.

The incident began on June 4, 2025, when the victim received a message from a Telegram handle, @Kiran_k_101. Following the initial conversation, she was added to a group named “GP Discussion 063.” The scammer offered her a chance to invest in Godrej Properties and falsely assured her of a job with the company, promising a daily income of ₹5,000. He sent screenshots of fake transactions and persistently followed up.

As part of the scam, the victim was first asked to transfer ₹10,000 with a promise of receiving ₹15,000 in return within 30 minutes. Trusting the offer, she made the payment. The scammer then demanded ₹31,572, assuring a return of ₹70,000. Later, he asked for another ₹65,000, claiming she would receive ₹2,12,078 by June 3, 2025.

On June 4, 2025, the scammer claimed the total amount was “saved” and demanded a final payment of ₹20,000 to release the promised return of ₹7,38,959. He directed the victim to a fake trading website to view the supposed profits. All payments were made via the Vyom App. The victim eventually realized it was a scam after no promised returns were received. In total, she lost ₹1,27,354.

Authorities warn the public against falling for job and investment scams on platforms like Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and X. Fraudsters often use fake websites and apps to lure victims, offering unrealistic returns and fake screenshots to gain trust.

Always verify job and investment offers through official company websites or government portals. Never share personal or financial information with unknown contacts.
