Hyderabad: Residents of Hyderabad have been voicing concerns over a long-standing water leakage issue near Annapurna Studios, Banjara Hills. Despite several complaints and assurances from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the problem remains unresolved.

Krishna Chaitanya, a local resident, expressed frustration over the ongoing issue with the Hyderabad Mail, saying, "This has been a long-pending problem, with precious drinking water leaking near Annapurna Studios. I’ve complained multiple times to HMWSSB, but nothing has been done." He added, "The use of water tankers in Hyderabad is increasing, and it's time for the government to address these leaks and conserve water. Every drop counts."

Chaitanya also took to social media, urging for urgent attention. "HUGE amounts of drinking water are getting leaked daily in front of Annapurna Studios. I have complained many times, but there has been no action. Please address this issue immediately," he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

In response, HMWSSB acknowledged the complaint, stating, "Good afternoon, Sir. Your complaint has been successfully registered with token number 5684. We will promptly forward it to the concerned officials. Thank you." However, Krishna Chaitanya pointed out that the issue had not been addressed, adding, "How can you close the complaint without fixing the issue? This has been going on for years, and so much precious water is being wasted daily. Why is this not being addressed?"

HMWSSB responded by reopening the complaint, apologizing for the inconvenience, and confirming that the issue was being escalated to the concerned officials. "The complaint with Token No: 5684, registered on 23.03.2025, has been reopened and intimated to the concerned officials," they stated.

Despite multiple complaints, Krishna Chaitanya continues to raise the issue, questioning how the authorities can ignore the leakage of drinking water. "How can you ignore this when so much precious water is getting leaked every day?" he posted again.

Meanwhile, the HMWSSB has been taking a strong stance against the misuse of drinking water in other parts of the city. On March 12, a resident of Journalist Colony, Jubilee Hills, was fined ₹1,000 for using drinking water to wash her vehicle. This fine came just a week after a similar incident on March 5, when another individual was fined for washing his bike with drinking water. The HMWSSB has warned residents that such misuse of drinking water will result in legal action.

The HMWSSB has highlighted the need to use drinking water responsibly, as the supply is limited. The city receives 550 million gallons of water daily, serving over 13 lakh connections. The board has made it clear that using drinking water for non-essential purposes, such as vehicle cleaning or gardening, is prohibited.

Residents facing similar issues with water and sewerage problems in Hyderabad are encouraged to contact HMWSSB through their customer service numbers at 155313 or 040-23300114, or via their social media platforms on X. For related concerns, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) can be contacted through their official handle on X (@GHMCOnline).

The HMWSSB, established on November 1, 1989, is responsible for managing the city’s water supply and sewerage services.
