Wrong-side driving a major concern in Hyderabad: 13,498 cases filed by traffic police

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police has registered significant cases during a special drive targeting number plate violations and wrong-side driving from March 31, 2025, to April 6, 2025. A total of 13,498 cases were booked for wrong-side driving, while 2,514 cases were registered for number plate violations.

In a public appeal, the Hyderabad Traffic Police urged citizens to follow traffic rules to make the city safer. The police also shared their helpline number, 9010203626, for assistance and reports.

Adil Hai (@HaiAdil), a concerned citizen, took to social media to highlight a specific problem at Nalgonda X Road. He raised concerns about wrong-side driving, with many vehicles coming diagonally from multiple directions, especially near Top in Town. He explained the urgent need for strict action to prevent potential accidents and fatalities in the area.

Meanwhile, Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a special drive against drunk driving over the weekend, apprehending 284 offenders. The violators included 248 two-wheelers, 9 three-wheelers, and 27 four-wheelers. Of those caught, 21 offenders had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml, while 12 others had BAC levels exceeding 500 mg/100 ml. All offenders will be presented before the court.

Authorities have warned that anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol and causing accidents resulting in fatalities will face arrest and charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The maximum penalty for this offense is 10 years in prison along with a fine.
