Hyderabad: Traffic diversions for Durga idol immersion from October 1

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory for Durga Matha idol immersion at People’s Plaza, Garden Point and baby ponds near Jalavihar and Sanjeevaiah Park. The diversions will come into effect from 15.00 IST on October 1, 2025, and remain in place until 06.00 IST on October 2. Officials said the restrictions would be implemented on a need basis depending on local conditions.

According to the advisory, traffic from Panjagutta and Raj Bhavan Road heading towards Khairatabad flyover will be diverted at VV Statue towards Nirankari Junction. Vehicles moving from Nirankari Junction towards Iqbal Minar will be diverted at Old Police Station Saifabad towards Ravindra Bharathi and Masab Tank, with only idol processions permitted on the Iqbal Minar stretch. Similarly, vehicles from HTP and Old PS Saifabad will be diverted at Ravindra Bharathi Junction towards Lakdikapool and HTP.

Traffic coming from Khairatabad Bada Ganesh lane will not be allowed towards Mint Lane and Necklace Rotary and will instead be routed at Printing Press Junction towards Rajiv Gandhi Statue. Vehicles from Upper Tank Bund towards Telugu Thalli Junction will be diverted at Old Ambedkar Statue towards Liberty. Those travelling from Himayatnagar Y Junction will also be diverted at Liberty towards Basheerbagh, while idol processions alone will be permitted via Telugu Thalli, NTR Marg and Necklace Road.

Further, traffic from Children’s Park towards Necklace Road via Sailing Club will be diverted at Buddha Bhavan towards Karbala Maidan. Vehicles from Ranigunj towards Necklace Road will be diverted at Nallagutta X Roads towards Minister Road, while traffic from Minister Road towards Necklace Road will be diverted at the same point towards Ranigunj. Vehicles from HTP towards BJR Circle will be diverted at AR Petrol Pump towards MJ Market.

Police have also advised commuters to avoid several key junctions where heavy congestion is expected from 15.00 IST on October 2 till 06.00 IST on October 3. These include VV Statue, Old PS Saifabad, Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad Traffic Police Junction (HTP), AR Petrol Pump, BJR Circle, Basheerbagh, Liberty, Old Ambedkar Statue, Upper Tank Bund and Nallagutta X Road. Citizens have been requested to plan their travel in advance, use alternative routes and follow traffic updates on the Hyderabad Traffic Police’s social media handles—Facebook (facebook.com/HYDTP) and X (Twitter) @HYDTP. For emergencies, assistance will also be available on the traffic helpline number 9010203626.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D Joel Davis appealed for public cooperation, stating that the measures were necessary to ensure smooth conduct of immersion processions across the city.
