Hyderabad: After Durgam Cheruvu, Hyderabad is set to get its second cable bridge as the government has approved the construction of a four-lane bridge. The 2.56 km long cable bridge will connect the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway via Chintalmet to the Hyderabad-Bangalore National Highway (NH-44).

The project was initially planned as a high-level bridge by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) with a budget of Rs 363 crore. The state government decided to upgrade it to a cable bridge following a high-level review by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The project responsibilities have been transferred from HMDA to the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation (MRDCL).

The Chief Minister is planning to transform the polluted Mir Alam pond and Musi River into tourist hotspots. The first phase of development will focus on the Musi River at Bapughat, followed by Mir Alam pond. The beautification plans include infrastructure development such as a bridge with a viewing deck and skywalk connecting these areas, alongside walking tracks, cycle paths, and enhanced greenery.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been entrusted to a Singapore consortium, Menhart, which will also be responsible for financing, construction, and facility management. The required land acquisition will be facilitated through Transfer of Development Rights (TDR).

The Mir Alam pond and Nehru Zoological Park will see integrated development across their combined area of 980 (600 acres of Mir Alam and 380 acres of zoo park) acres. There are also proposals to purify water flowing from Mir Alam pond through the zoo's three ponds before it joins the Musi river.
