GHMC bags Swachh City Title; Hyderabad ranked cleanest in Telangana
Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad has been declared the “Swachh City” of Telangana, receiving the state-level award in the Swachh Survekshan 2024. The recognition was announced at a national ceremony organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
Dr. K. Ilambarithi, Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, and GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan received the award from Union Minister Manohar Lal.
In the national survey for cities with a population of over 10 lakhs, Hyderabad ranked 6th and received a 7-star rating in the “Garbage-Free City” category. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) also received the ODF (Open Defecation Free) Water+ certification. Last year, the city had ranked 9th with a 5-star rating.
The award ceremony was attended by GHMC officials including Additional Commissioner for Sanitation Raghu Prasad, Superintending Engineer (Solid Waste Management) Koteswara Rao, Executive Engineer Srinivas Reddy, ASBM Yashashree Reddy, Sanitation Supervisor Sudharsan, and Sanitation Inspector Urmila.
