Hyderabad: Until now, it was just a call or tweet away to get a rain-battered road fixed. However, this has changed now as the five-year agreement for the maintenance of 810 kilometers of main roads under the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP) in Serilingampally and Kukatpally GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) zones has ended.

The agreement signed with the private agencies for the upkeep of roads is set to expire next month in the remaining four GHMC zones including Khairatabad, Secunderabad, LB Nagar, and Charminar.

Incidentally, the civic body has neither renewed the contract or invited fresh tenders for the maintenance of CRMP roads in the city limits. Meanwhile, fresh bids have been invited for mechanical sweeping services to clean large flat paved areas on CRMP road stretches in Kukatpally and Serilingampally till June 2025.

In 2019, the GHMC had signed an agreement with the private agencies under the CRMP to maintain major stretches in the city for the next five years. The agencies were entrusted with the road repairs, maintenance and re-carpeting of roads, and sweeping roads at regular intervals.

As per the agreement, the private players were given the responsibility of road repairs, maintenance and recarpeting of 709-km in seven packages at an estimated cost of Rs 1,827 crore. The agencies were required to complete the recarpeting of 50 percent of the roads in the first year, 30 percent in the second year, and the remaining 20 percent in the third year.

BSCPL Infrastructure Limited was given the task to maintain LB Nagar zone covering 65 stretches with 138.771 km at a contract value of Rs 238.42 crore. M Venkatarao Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd was responsible for the Charminar Zone covering 57 stretches (100.427 km) at a contract value of Rs 219.70 crore.

NCC Limited was assigned Serlingampally zone covering 54 stretches (108.440 km) at a contract value of Rs 243.25 crore and Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd worked in the Kukatpally zone covering 30 stretches (82.121 km) at a contract value of Rs 146.71 crore.
