Hyderabad retain Buchi Babu Trophy for second year

CHENNAI: Hyderabad clinched the All-India Buchi Babu Invitation Cricket Tournament title for the second consecutive year on the basis of first-innings lead after the final against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) President’s XI ended in a draw. Hyderabad scored 376 in their first innings, while TNCA managed 353, giving Hyderabad a 23-run advantage.

Resuming at 14/1 on Tuesday, Hyderabad made 155/5 in 70 overs in their second innings. Varun Goud scored an unbeaten 56 off 122 balls with three fours and a six, while Rahul Radhesh (31 not out off 133 balls) and Raviteja (30 off 87 balls) provided support. Goud and Radhesh added an unbroken 85 runs for the sixth wicket. Aman Rao (19), Himateja (11) and captain Rahul Singh (2) failed to stay long. For TNCA, bowlers Vidyut and Hemachudeshan picked up two wickets each.

No outright result possible

With Hyderabad effectively ahead by 178 runs, both captains agreed to a draw before the scheduled close of play. Himateja, who struck a fluent half-century in the first innings, was named Player of the Match. All-rounder Varun Goud was adjudged Player of the Tournament.

Hyderabad received a cash prize of ₹3 lakh along with the trophy. Former India cricketer Robin Singh and TNCA officials presented the awards to the winners.
