Hyderabad residents express concerns over rising wrong driving amid lack of medians
Hyderabad: Hyderabad residents are increasingly concerned about the rise of wrong driving in the city, which they attribute to the lack of medians and dividers in many areas. Citizens express frustration over the difficulties posed by this absence, which enables some drivers to violate traffic rules. Many fear that the situation could lead to serious accidents, particularly involving larger vehicles, resulting in unexpected tragedies and potential loss of life.
Santhosh, a resident of Hyderabad, spoke with the Hyderabad Mail about the issue, stating, “This problem is prevalent at every X road on the main roads in Hyderabad. The dividers are becoming shorter due to the repeated resurfacing of roads. I believe the officials have completely neglected the median dividers. When the divider is level with the main road, wrong-side driving increases, jeopardising the safety of other commuters.”
Santhosh shared a personal experience from Kachiguda, saying, “In this picture, you can see the height of the divider behind the biker. It is level with the main road, which gives drivers an opportunity to violate traffic rules. I was taking a U-turn, adhering to traffic regulations, when this individual almost collided with me while bypassing the divider. In India, if you drive correctly and follow all traffic rules, someone may come in front of you unexpectedly.”
He further highlighted the need for better infrastructure, particularly at Tilak Nagar X Roads in Amberpet. “I raised this issue on January 23, 2024, but the problem remains unresolved. A new median divider is still not built,” he said.
Santhosh also took to ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, to voice his concerns. In response, an Amberpet Traffic Police official acknowledged the issue and assured him that they would resolve the median divider problem as soon as possible. However, no solution has been implemented to date.
Citizens hope that prompt action will be taken to improve road safety and reduce the risks associated with reckless driving in the city.
