Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on July 19, 2025, has issued a rain alert for the city, warning of moderate showers and thunderstorms in several areas on Saturday afternoon and evening.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), GHMC said rain is expected in parts of Beeramguda, RC Puram, Miyapur, Serilingampally, Chandrayangutta, Bandlaguda, Balapur, Hayathnagar, Ghatkesar, Shamshabad, and Rajendranagar over the next one to two hours.

Residents have been advised to avoid low-lying areas. For assistance, the civic body has provided emergency helplines: 040-29555500 and 9000113667.

The warning comes a day after heavy evening rainfall disrupted life across the city. Several areas, especially in the northern and eastern parts, experienced waterlogging and traffic delays. Localities including Secunderabad, Begumpet, Alwal, Tarnaka, OU Campus, Habsiguda, Uppal, Nacharam, and Musheerabad reported significant rainfall on Friday.

The downpour coincided with school closing hours, prompting concerns as many children were on their way home. Parents were urged to be cautious while commuting.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police said there was major congestion at MBNR X Roads due to water overflow. Traffic slowed down at Chatrinaka, near Indira Park, and around the New Market Metro Station near Akshaya Hotel. Commuters were advised to take alternate routes, especially when traveling from Ayodhya Junction toward Lakdikapul and Banjara Hills.

Meanwhile, Telangana Weatherman (@balaji25_t) forecasted a hot and humid day until mid-afternoon, with scattered intense thunderstorms likely between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., continuing through the night in isolated areas. Though today’s rainfall may not match the intensity of yesterday’s, sudden storms are expected due to high daytime heat and cloud formation. Citizens are advised to stay updated and plan their travel accordingly.
