In a significant move to tackle the growing menace of cybercrime, the Hyderabad City Police have established Zonal Cyber Cells (ZCCs) across all seven zones of the city. This initiative is aimed at offering swift, localized, and efficient responses to cybercrime complaints, thereby improving investigation outcomes and ensuring better support for victims.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand inaugurated the newly formed cyber units on Thursday, highlighting their strategic importance in the evolving landscape of digital threats. “With dedicated cyber units in each zone, we are now in a stronger position to respond to cybercrime complaints efficiently, improve case detection rates, and expedite the refund process for victims,” he said.
A total of 61 personnel have been selected to staff the ZCCs. These officers have undergone specialized training to equip them with the skills necessary for handling cybercrime investigations, which often involve complex digital evidence and cross-jurisdictional challenges. Their selection was based on a rigorous process to ensure only the most capable officers are deployed in this critical task.
The primary objective of the Zonal Cyber Cells is to enhance the overall efficiency of cybercrime investigations while offering localized support to citizens. These units will focus on the quick registration of complaints, prompt action to block fraudulent transactions, and increasing the success rate of identifying and prosecuting offenders.
Each ZCC will function under the direct supervision of the respective Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), allowing for better coordination, accountability, and faster decision-making. Moreover, these cells will work in close collaboration with the Hyderabad Cyber Crimes Police Station (CCPS), which will provide technical expertise and backend support for complex cases.
The creation of ZCCs is expected to bridge the gap between victims and law enforcement by making cybercrime reporting more accessible and responsive. It also reflects the police department’s commitment to staying ahead in the fight against technology-driven crime and ensuring the safety of citizens in an increasingly digital environment.
This initiative marks a proactive step towards strengthening cyber security infrastructure at the grassroots level, and positions Hyderabad as a model city in the domain of digital policing.
