Hyderabad: Hyderabad Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand confirmed the arrest of actor Allu Arjun in relation to the stampede that occurred during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre on December 4, 2024. A video surfaced showing the actor objecting to his arrest, stating he was pulled from his bedroom and requesting to finish his breakfast before being taken into custody. His wife, Sneha Reddy, and father, Allu Aravind, were present during the incident.

The stampede resulted in the death of 39-year-old Revathi and left her 13-year-old son injured. Following the tragedy, the theatre’s owner, M. Sandeep, senior manager M. Nagaraju, and balcony in-charge Gandhakam Vijay Chander were arrested by police. A case was filed against Allu Arjun, his security team, the theatre management, and others after the deceased’s husband lodged a complaint. The case is registered under sections 105, 118(1) r/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita Act.

According to police reports, the stampede occurred around 9:30 p.m. when a large crowd gathered to see Allu Arjun, causing overcrowding in the lower balcony. Revathi and her son were caught in the crush, leading to her death. She was declared dead at Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital, and her son is receiving treatment.

Authorities stated that the theatre management failed to implement sufficient crowd control measures.

Following the incident, Allu Arjun expressed condolences to the family and announced a financial aid of Rs 25 lakh to the deceased woman's family.

Meanwhile, Pushpa 2: The Rule continues to perform well at the box office, grossing over ₹1,002 crore. The actor has also denied rumors regarding his political plans, which had been circulating recently.
