Hyderabad: The Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), also known as Imliban bus stand, was completely submerged on Friday night as floodwater flowed through the bus stand following the lifting of gates at the twin reservoirs. The sudden rise in water levels led to chaos, with some passengers initially trapped inside the facility before being brought out by rescue teams.
The flood intensity increased suddenly. The situation was marked by confusion as the reservoir's gates were lifted without prior warning, leading to a rapid inflow of water into the low-lying area.
Rescue and Official Response
HYDRAA’s Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams reached the scene. Efforts were made to bring out passengers trapped inside the bus stand due to high flood levels. The passengers were brought out one by one, holding hands for safety.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inquired with officials about the situation along the Musi riverbed. He ordered officials to take precautions in all low-lying areas along the Musi and to evacuate people from flood-prone zones to safer areas. “The CM personally reviewed the relief measures for passengers stranded at MGBS near Imliban after water entered the area at midnight. He instructed officials to divert buses coming to MGBS to alternative routes,” said a statement released by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
Travel Advisory for Passengers
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has temporarily halted all bus services from MGBS. The corporation has issued an important note for passengers, appealing to them not to come to the bus stand.
Buses have been diverted to other locations across the city. Services towards Adilabad, Karimnagar, Medak, and Nizamabad are running from JBS. Buses to Warangal and Hanamkonda are operating from Uppal Crossroads. Services to Suryapet, Nalgonda, and Vijayawada are running from LB Nagar, and buses to Mahabubnagar, Kurnool, and Bengaluru are departing from Aramgarh, according to a statement released by TGSRTC.
Passengers are advised to contact the TGSRTC call centre at 040-69440000 or 040-23450033 for further details. With heavy rain forecast for the second consecutive day, the Chief Minister has advised the police, traffic, GHMC, and electricity departments to be on high alert.
