Hyderabad Metro facilitates 12-minute heart transport via Green Corridor
Hyderabad: On March 7, 2025, at 9:16 p.m., Hyderabad Metro Rail set up a dedicated Green Corridor to facilitate the rapid transportation of a donor heart. The heart was transported from Kamineni Hospitals in LB Nagar to KIMS Hospital in Rasoolpura, Secunderabad, covering a distance of 13 kilometers in just 12 minutes, passing through 11 stations.
This successful operation was the result of close coordination between Hyderabad Metro Rail, medical professionals, and hospital authorities, all under the supervision of the attending doctors. The use of the Green Corridor ensured that critical time was saved in this life-saving mission.
L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&TMRHL) continues to support emergency services, utilizing its infrastructure to benefit society.
This marks the second such initiative by Hyderabad Metro Rail in 2025. Earlier, on January 17, a similar Green Corridor was created for the transportation of a donor heart from Kamineni Hospitals to Gleneagles Global Hospital in Lakdi-ka-pul. The operation covered the same 13-kilometer stretch in 13 minutes.
In September 2022, Hyderabad Metro Rail also facilitated the transportation of a live heart from Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills to Nagole, covering 21 kilometers in 25 minutes, despite challenges posed by large crowds attending a nearby cricket match.
What is a Green Corridor?
A Green Corridor is a dedicated route where traffic signals are manually controlled to allow uninterrupted movement of an ambulance or other transport carrying vital organs, ensuring timely delivery to the destination hospital.
