Hyderabad man kills security guard at Goa casino
Hyderabad: A man from Hyderabad killed a security guard during an assault at a casino carnival in Campal, Panaji, Goa, on Wednesday night, May 28, 2025.
The accused has been identified as Abdul Altaf, 25, who, attacked the guard while intoxicated. The deceased has been identified as Dheeru Sharma, 33, from Satna, Madhya Pradesh. Abdul Altaf, a resident of Misrigunj near Charminar, Hyderabad, was arrested by Goa police soon after the incident.
According to reports, Altaf arrived in Goa with three friends and began misbehaving with casino staff. Despite repeated warnings from security personnel, he continued to cause trouble. When the guards intervened, Altaf took a wooden rod with an iron clamp from a staircase and attacked two security guards, Dheeru Sharma and Satyam Gaonkar, 27, from Shiroda, South Goa.
Dheeru Sharma was critically injured and later died at Goa Medical College and Hospital. Satyam Gaonkar sustained a head injury and is in stable condition. Police received a distress call and launched an investigation.
Altaf tried to flee but was caught at Dabolim airport in the early hours. Background checks revealed he has a criminal record with Mailardevpally police station in Hyderabad. Goa police are coordinating with Hyderabad authorities for further details. Forensic experts have examined the crime scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
