Hydraa: Tammidikunta, Nallacheruvu lake works to finish by November
HYDERABAD: Hydraa Commissioner A.V. Ranganath directed officials to complete the development works of Tammidikunta Lake in Madhapur and Nallacheruvu in Kukatpally by November.
The commissioner inspected both lakes on Friday and reviewed the progress of the ongoing works. He instructed officials to develop them as tourist attractions and ensure that there were no obstacles in the improvement of inlets from Shilparamam and Metal Charminar sides. He also asked for proper drainage at Shilparamam to prevent water stagnation.
He said a retaining wall should be built along the outer bund and the inner stone lining must be strengthened. The lake area has been expanded from 14 acres to 29 acres, and he directed that it be developed in such a way that water can be retained throughout the expanded zone.
Main entrance from Shilparamam side
Given the proximity to Hitec City and Shilparamam, Ranganath ordered that the main entrance of Tammidikunta Lake be located on that side. He instructed officials to build approach roads around the lake and ensure that sewage does not enter it. Stormwater drains and outflow channels should allow smooth passage of rainwater.
He said trees providing shade and oxygen should be planted along the 3-km pathway around the lake to make it a pleasant walking space. With rising temperatures expected in future, he added, the lake’s greenery should help lower the local temperature by at least 3–4°C.
Nallacheruvu to become a leisure hub
Around Nallacheruvu in Kukatpally, where thousands of houses are located, the commissioner directed officials to develop a wide pathway for walkers and build a park for residents to relax.
He also instructed that the lake’s inlets and outlets be fully developed and that drainage works be completed quickly to prevent sewage inflow. The Water Board was told to expedite construction of the canal network.
Local residents expressed satisfaction over the ongoing beautification, saying the lake, which was earlier spread across 17 acres, has now been cleared of encroachments and expanded to 27 acres. They thanked the commissioner, saying the project had transformed their locality into a refreshing public space.
