Hyderabad man duped of over Rs. 10 lakh in online part-time job scam
Hyderabad: A 26-year-old unemployed man from Hyderabad lost Rs. 10,19,781 in an online job scam after falling for a fraudulent part-time job offer received via WhatsApp. The victim has filed an online complaint seeking assistance.
According to the complaint, the victim received a message offering a part-time job with the promise of earning Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 50,000 per month by working just 2–3 hours a day. The message claimed that the company needed staff and promised high returns. He was later contacted via Telegram.
The scam began with a registration link bearing the name "K Raheja Corporation" and a referral code. After signing up, the victim was instructed to perform promotional tasks under categories such as Junior, Senior, Supreme, and Luxurious, supposedly related to real estate.
Initially, the victim received a login bonus of Rs. 10,000, visible on the app, which boosted his confidence. He completed 20 tasks and was told he could withdraw Rs. 500, while the remaining balance would be used for future investment. As he continued completing tasks, the scammer claimed his account showed a negative balance, prompting him to deposit Rs. 7,000. Upon depositing, the victim was allowed to withdraw Rs. 7,500, further convincing him of the platform’s legitimacy.
In the following days, the victim made several more deposits as his account repeatedly showed a negative balance. He was told that by investing more, he would earn higher returns. Encouraged by the scammer and shown screenshots of a “special event” offering lucrative investment slots, the victim selected the Rs. 30,000 option. He deposited an additional Rs. 20,000, bringing his total investment higher.
At one point, the app reflected a balance of Rs. 1,72,957.47. However, when asked to reinvest the entire amount, the victim grew suspicious. Upon further checking, he realized that the company and app were fake. In total, the victim lost Rs. 10,19,781.
