Hyderabad Heroes: Local residents take charge of road safety in Nizampet
Nizampet: In an inspiring act of civic duty, residents Katragadda Sai Teja and Bellam Srinivas have become local heroes in the Nizampet area of Hyderabad by addressing hazardous road conditions that have allegedly been neglected by municipal authorities. Frustrated by repeated requests for repairs that went unanswered, the duo took it upon themselves to fill potholes and stabilise a problematic bridge using stones and sand.
Sai Teja shared his frustration with the Hyderabad Mail, stating, "After countless complaints about the deplorable state of the roads in Pragathi Nagar, we finally received approvals for repairs, but the work began and was left incomplete. Despite our daily calls and messages, the municipality showed little concern."
Highlighting the safety risks, Sai Teja noted, "We've witnessed multiple skidding incidents among two-wheeler riders in just a few days. Rather than continue pleading for action from officials, we decided to take responsibility ourselves. Accidents don't just impact individuals; they affect entire families."
In a remarkable effort, the two men completed the task in just 45 minutes. "Imagine if officials had the proper tools and resources; they could have addressed this issue much more effectively," Sai Teja said.
While they significantly improved safety, Sai Teja highlighted the need for the municipality to step up. "We did our part, but the authorities must repair the roads promptly to prevent further accidents. There have already been reports of skidding incidents among bikers," he said.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Sai Teja said, "As there is no response from the officials, today @SrinivasBellam and I took action by laying broken stones and sand, recognising the importance of #RoadSafety. We urge the authorities to do the needful."
Their initiative has connected with the community and received a lot of praise on X, highlighting how local efforts can effectively tackle public safety issues. At a time when many feel powerless, Sai Teja and Bellam Srinivas have shown that individuals can truly make a difference.
