Heavy rainfall paralyzes Hyderabad, waterlogging hits multiple areas
Hyderabad: Hyderabad experienced heavy rainfall on Friday evening, July 18, 2025, causing waterlogging on several major roads and disrupting traffic across the city.
Rain was reported in areas including Secunderabad, Chilakalguda, Begumpet, Alwal, Tirumalagiri, Bollaram, Bowenpally, Maredpally, Tarnaka, OU Campus, Lalapet, Habsiguda, Uppal, Nacharam, Nagaram, Mallapur, Musheerabad, RTC Crossroads, Ashoknagar, Gandhinagar, Kawadiguda, Bholakpur, and Chikkadpally.
The heavy downpour coincided with school closing hours, prompting concern as many children were traveling home. Parents are advised to exercise caution.
Hyderabad Traffic Police reported severe congestion due to water overflow at MBNR X Roads. Officers are on site managing the situation and have advised commuters to proceed with caution. Waterlogging has also been reported at Chatrinaka, near Indira Park, and the New Market Metro Station near Akshaya Hotel, causing slow traffic movement.
Police have urged commuters traveling from Ayodhya Junction towards Lakdikapul and Banjara Hills to use alternate routes to avoid delays.
Telangana Weatherman (@balaji25_t) issued a warning of continuous severe thunderstorms expected in Hyderabad and neighboring districts, including Rangareddy, Yadadri-Bhongir, Siddipet, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy, over the next one to two hours. Localized flooding is anticipated.
He further confirmed that Hyderabad recorded rainfall between 50 to 75 mm in several parts of the city. A brief lull occurred between 4:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., but more moderate to heavy showers are expected later. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel until the weather improves.
