Goshamahal Road cave-in disrupts traffic; GHMC Mayor orders urgent tender for repairs
Hyderabad: On Tuesday night, January 28, 2025, a section of the road between Goshamahal and Darussalam caved in, damaging several vehicles and disrupting traffic on this busy route. However, no casualties were reported.
Upon receiving information about the incident, GHMC Mayor Vijayalaxmi Gadwal visited the site with concerned officials to assess the situation. After examining the damage, the mayor assured the public that repair work would be expedited. She stated that tenders for the repairs would be invited within a day.
Local residents, however, raised concerns, claiming that similar incidents of road collapses have occurred in the area before. They cited the improper management of a nearby nala and the impact of heavy vehicles on the road as contributing factors to the deteriorating condition.
Mayor Gadwal took to her official 'X' (formerly Twitter), saying, "Inspected the incident site where Goshamahal Nala road collapsed along with Zonal Commissioner Anurag. For a permanent solution, I have instructed officials to prepare proposals tomorrow and to call for a one-day tender to complete the work immediately."
This is not the first such incident in the area. On January 10, 2025, a crusher lorry was trapped when a section of the Chaknavadi Nala road in Goshamahal collapsed. The driver escaped uninjured, but the collapse highlighted ongoing concerns about the area’s infrastructure.
Residents expressed frustration over the authorities' lack of action to address the issues with the nala. Despite being under construction for an extended period, only 50 percent of the 800-meter nala work has been completed. Locals have repeatedly raised concerns with officials, but progress has been slow. "The unfinished nala poses a serious risk, especially for school buses and other vehicles," said one resident.
Earlier, on October 23, 2024, another section of the road near Chaknavadi collapsed in the early hours, causing panic among commuters. Residents have warned they will protest if the authorities fail to address the ongoing infrastructure issues promptly.
