Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, caught two sanitary field assistants working at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Circle-18, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000.

The accused were identified as Md. Saleem Khan (AO-1) and G. Ramesh (AO-2), were apprehended by ACB officials at 3:15 p.m. when they accepted a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from a complainant.

According to the ACB, the bribe was demanded in exchange for not imposing a fine on a coffee shop owned by the complainant. The total amount demanded by the accused was Rs. 60,000, out of which Rs. 25,000 was paid through AO-2, G. Ramesh.

The bribe money was recovered from G. Ramesh at the behest of Md. Saleem Khan. A chemical test on the contact points of G. Ramesh’s trousers, specifically the left front pocket and his fingers, yielded a positive result, confirming the acceptance of the bribe.

Both accused officers, Md. Saleem Khan and G. Ramesh, have been arrested and will be produced before the Hon'ble Principal Special Judge for Special Police Establishment (SPE) and ACB cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. The case is currently under investigation.

Malakpet Tax Officers arrested for bribe

In the second case, at 5:15 p.m. on the same day, Assistant Commissioner (ST) Mahaboob Basha (AO-1) and Assistant Commercial Tax Officer K. Soma Shekar (AO-2), both working at Malakpet-II Circle, Hyderabad, were caught by ACB officials for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000.

The bribe was requested in exchange for issuing a letter to defreeze the complainant’s bank account. The total amount demanded by the accused was Rs. 1,00,000, of which Rs. 50,000 was paid through K. Soma Shekar.

The bribe money was recovered from the office desk of AO-2, and a chemical test on desk's surface tested positive for the bribe amount. Both officers, Mahaboob Basha and K. Soma Shekar, have been arrested and will also be presented before the Hon'ble Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. This case is also under investigation.

The ACB has urged the public to report any incidents of bribery or corruption by public servants by calling their toll-free number 1064. Assurances have been given that the identity of the complainant will remain confidential.
