GHMC panel approves renaming of Telugu Thalli flyover

Standing committee clears 24 agenda items

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) standing committee, chaired by mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, met at the head office on Wednesday and cleared 24 items, including 14 agenda points and 10 table items.

The panel approved a proposal to rename the Telugu Thalli flyover, which connects Lower Tank Bund to the Secretariat, as Telangana Thalli flyover. The proposal will be sent to the corporation council.

GHMC commissioner R V Karnan, standing committee members Bonthu Sridevi, additional commissioners Satyanarayana, Venugopal, Pankaj, Alivelu Mangathayaru and Subhadra Devi attended the meeting.

Medical cover for corporators, families extended till 2026

The committee extended medical insurance for all 145 corporators and their families till February 2026, at a cost of ₹33.53 lakh.

On streetlight maintenance, members authorised officials to decide whether to float fresh tenders for three months or extend contracts with the present 17 DIC vendors.

The panel also empowered the commissioner to order closure of meat and beef shops, as well as slaughterhouses, on select days in future.

Further, the committee proposed that GHMC outsourcing workers employed through self-help groups be given salary accounts in private banks, along with benefits of personal accident and term life insurance.
