Priest’s family trapped in Puranapool temple as Musi floods

HYDERABAD: Heavy rains over two days caused the Musi river to swell and flood several parts of Hyderabad, leaving residents stranded in low-lying areas.

Musi crosses danger mark at Puranapool

At Puranapool bridge, officials recorded the river at 13 feet on Saturday, which they described as hazardous. Water overflowed from Bapughat, inundating downstream colonies.

A priest’s family was trapped inside a temple near Puranapool as floodwaters surged around the structure. Police and revenue officials began efforts to rescue them.

Neighbourhoods including Chaderghat, Puranapool, MGBS and Moosarambagh were submerged, disrupting daily life.

Relief teams supply food and water by drones

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Revenue Department, National Disaster Response Force and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation carried out joint relief operations.

Food and drinking water were air-dropped to stranded residents in flood-hit areas using drones.

Officials inspect affected colonies

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath visited inundated areas to review the situation. Drone visuals from Puranapool showed the Musi river in full spate, with floodwaters gushing through adjoining residential and commercial localities.
