Hyderabad flood fury: 400 residents protest at GHMC Charminar
Hyderabad: About 400 residents from the old city protested at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) Zonal Office in Charminar Zone on Monday. They were upset about urban flooding and its effects. The recent heavy rain caused severe damage and flooded many areas, including Dhobi Ghat, Madina Nagar, Sadath Nagar, Moula Ka Chilla, and nearby places.
Anguished over the extensive damage to their properties, including essential household electronics and daily-use items, which were rendered unusable due to the flooding, residents stormed the Charminar zonal office, GHMC.
“The flooding led to significant loss and destruction of residential properties, daily-use electronics, and other essential household items, leaving the lives of residents in a miserable state. The situation has greatly impacted the affected families. Many are in distress and find it hard to return to normal life”, said Amjed Ullah Khan (Spokesman) MBT under whose party the protest was organized.
He further added that the community, already struggling, has been further burdened by the lack of prompt and effective response from the civic authorities.
Abdul Rahman, a contested corporator from MBT and an active social worker, led the protest. He submitted a representation to the Charminar Zonal Commissioner. In response, the Zonal Commissioner assured that they would take necessary steps to ensure such flooding does not recur in the future.
