Hyderabad Task Force Seizes Illegal Firecrackers Worth ₹18 Lakh in Afzalgunj Raid

HYDERABAD: The Commissioner’s Task Force, East Zone team, Hyderabad, along with Afzalgunj police, raided an illegal firecracker godown at Siddamber Bazar in Osman Gunj on October 10, 2025, and seized explosive materials worth about ₹18 lakh.

One held for illegal storage of crackers in Hyderabad

The raid was conducted at a residential premises, H.No. 15-2-696/A, where officials found 100 cartons of various brands of firecrackers stored without valid permission from authorities. The accused, Shyam Kumar Sugandhi, 55, a businessman residing opposite Fernandis Hospital, Bogulkunta, Abids, was apprehended.

Police said Shyam Kumar had stored the crackers without a licence and without taking safety measures despite knowing that keeping explosive materials in a residential area posed a serious risk to lives and property.

Operation led by Task Force and Afzalgunj police

The operation was carried out based on a tip-off under the supervision of U. Chandra Shekhar, Inspector of Police, East Zone Task Force, with Sub-Inspectors M. Anantha Chary, S. Karunakar Reddy, and P. Nagaraju, and their team, in coordination with the Afzalgunj police.

Officials said the seized materials and the accused were handed over to the local police for further investigation.
