Kukatpally: What began as a routine purchase turned into a fight for consumer rights for E. Ramulu, a resident of Kukatpally. During a regular visit to Ratnadeep Super Market, Ramulu bought a packet of milk. He had no idea of the shock waiting for him at home. When his wife opened the packet to prepare tea, a foul smell immediately alerted them to something wrong. Unlike many who might dismiss such an incident, Ramulu decided to take action. He wanted to fight for his consumer rights. Subsequently, he approached the Kukatpally police and lodged a complaint.

Going further into details, E Ramulu, a resident of Marina Skies on June 22, bought two packets of Heritage Toned Milk from Ratnadeep Super Market within Marina Skies and paid via PhonePe. While the first packet was consumed without issue, the second emitted a foul odor upon opening on June 24. “When my wife opened the second packet to prepare tea, she noticed a foul smell. She then poured the milk into two small bowls and boiled it, but in both cases, the milk was found to be spoiled," said the complainant.

“Had we used the milk without noticing the smell, it could have posed a serious health risk to my family. This amounts to a rash and negligent act on the part of those responsible, including the supermarket staff and their suppliers,” said the complainant, who preserved the spoiled milk and packaging as evidence. The complainant alleges negligence by the supermarket or its supply chain and demands criminal action against responsible parties.

The Kukatpally police booked a case and further investigation is underway. The police have booked a case under 125 (Act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 274 (Adulteration of food and drink intended for sale), and 275 (Sale of noxious food or drink).
