Hyderabad: Despite the onset of the monsoon, Hyderabad continues to experience persistent heat and humidity, with day temperatures hovering around 31–32°C and nights staying unusually warm at 23–24°C. While these figures may not appear extreme, the combination of heat and high moisture in the air is making conditions increasingly uncomfortable and in some cases, unhealthy.

What makes this weather particularly challenging is the lack of nighttime relief. Typically, cooler nights help the body recover after a hot day. But in recent days, night temperatures have remained high across the city, especially in the concrete-dense central areas. The urban heat island effect where buildings, roads, and other structures absorb heat during the day and release it slowly at night has been making it difficult for temperatures to drop, leaving residents with little respite.

Doctors in local clinics and hospitals report a rise in heat-related ailments. Cases of dehydration, fatigue, and sleep disturbances have increased, particularly among the elderly and those with existing health conditions. The sustained warmth, even after sunset, is quietly taking a toll on public health.

Humidity has only made matters worse. With high moisture levels in the air, the body’s natural cooling process sweating becomes less effective. Meteorologists refer to this phenomenon as the "wet-bulb effect," where sweat cannot evaporate properly, preventing the body from cooling down. This can lead to internal overheating, which poses a greater risk when the heat persists round the clock.

Though rainfall has been recorded in parts of the city, it has done little to ease the discomfort. The combination of trapped heat and humid air continues to dominate the city’s weather pattern.

Residents are being advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and pay attention to signs of heat stress. For many in Hyderabad, the current spell is not just another monsoon phase it’s a period of sustained discomfort with real health consequences.
