Hyderabad Traffic Police book 928 drunk driving cases from June 7 to 13
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted extensive drunk and drive checks from June 7 to June 13, 2025, resulting in the booking of 928 cases. The majority involved two-wheelers, with 805 cases registered, followed by 44 cases involving three-wheelers and 79 involving four-wheelers. No heavy vehicles were booked during this period.
An analysis of the accused age groups revealed that most were between 21 and 40 years old, accounting for 684 cases combined, 394 in the 21–30 age range and 290 between 31 and 40. Other age groups included 158 cases for 41–50 years, 58 for 51–60, 20 for 18–20, and 8 cases for those over 61. No cases involved individuals below 18 years.
All accused were male. Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels showed a significant number of cases between 51 and 100 mg/100 ml, totaling 419. Another 209 cases fell in the 30–50 range, while 175 cases were between 101 and 150 mg/100 ml. Higher BAC counts included 71 cases in the 151–200 range, 28 in 201–250, and 13 cases each in the 251–300 and above 300 ranges.
In related enforcement activities, Hyderabad Traffic Police reported booking 14,917 cases of wrong-side driving and 3,881 cases of number plate violations between May 20 and May 26, 2025, under the campaign titled “Special Drive Against Number Plate Violations & Wrong Side Driving.” A similar drive conducted from March 31 to April 6 recorded 13,498 wrong-side driving cases and 2,514 number plate violations. Authorities continue to urge citizens to comply with traffic rules for road safety and have shared a helpline number, 9010203626, for reporting violations.
Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Traffic Police carried out a weekend operation targeting drunk driving, apprehending 252 individuals. Vehicle seizures included 199 two-wheelers, 10 three-wheelers, and 43 four-wheelers, with no heavy vehicles confiscated. The majority of accused, 228 individuals, had BAC levels ranging from 35 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml. Eighteen recorded BAC between 201 and 300 mg/100 ml, and six were found with BAC levels between 301 and 500 mg/100 ml.
Most individuals were aged between 21 and 40 years, with three aged 18–20, 92 between 21 and 30, 87 in the 31–40 group, 54 aged 41–50, 11 between 51–60, and five aged 61 or older. No minors were involved in this operation. All individuals were presented before the court.
The Cyberabad Traffic Police warned motorists about the dangers of drunk driving and highlighted that if such behavior leads to a fatal accident, offenders could face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
