DRI seizes 12 kg hydroponic weed worth ₹12 crore at RGIA

HYDERABAD: Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, seized 12 kg of hydroponic weed valued at ₹12 crore at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad.

Passenger arriving from Dubai intercepted at airport

Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted an Indian passenger who arrived from Dubai. A search of her baggage led to the recovery of packets containing a greenish, lumpy substance. Preliminary testing confirmed it to be cannabis. About 6 kg of hydroponic weed was seized from this baggage.

During questioning, the passenger disclosed that another checked-in bag had been declared misplaced, for which she had already filed a complaint. The bag arrived in Hyderabad on September 20, 2025. On examination, officials recovered another 6 kg of hydroponic weed.

The total seizure amounted to 12 kg, with an estimated international market value of ₹12 crore. The passenger has been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
