Hyderabad: A 26-year-old doctor from Hyderabad went missing on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, after jumping into the Tungabhadra River near Sanapur village, Gangavati Taluk, Koppal district, Karnataka. She is feared to have been washed away by the river's strong currents.

The 26-year-old doctor, Ananya Mohan Rao, worked at a hospital in the Nampally area of Hyderabad and was reportedly on vacation with friends when the incident occurred.

According to reports, she decided to swim in the river on February 18. Footage captured by her friends shows her jumping off a cliff near the river. Local witnesses believe she may have gotten trapped in rocks after jumping, with the powerful undercurrent possibly contributing to her disappearance.

A search operation was launched by the police, fire brigade, and local volunteers to locate Ananya Mohan Rao. Diving experts are assisting with the search efforts. As of now, no case has been registered regarding the incident, and the police have confirmed that a missing persons report was filed on Wednesday.

In response to the incident, the Koppal district administration has temporarily halted all water activities, including swimming and coracle rides, in the area. The search operation is ongoing.
