Hyderabad crime rate falls 17%, teamwork made it possible: C V Anand
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand on Sunday said the city recorded a 17% decline in overall crime cases over the past year, attributing the trend to coordinated policing and community engagement. Between September 2024 and August 2025, a total of 31,533 cases were registered across the commissionerate, down from 38,206 cases in the previous year.
Major crimes show clear reduction
According to official data, murders fell 14% (from 85 to 73 cases), attempt to murder cases dropped 29% (259 to 185), and kidnapping cases reduced by 12% (698 to 616). Cybercrime cases also registered a fall, from 4,348 last year to 3,745 this year (14% decline). The detection rate improved slightly from 40% to 42%.
Property-related offences showed a sharper fall of 26%, down from 5,484 to 4,082 cases. The recovery rate improved marginally from 54% to 55%. Among these, robbery cases halved from 251 to 135 (46% decline), while thefts dropped 27% from 4,778 to 3,501. House burglaries showed little change (450 to 443 cases).
Crimes against women: mixed trend
The number of sexually assaulted cases declined 23% (632 to 485), and incidents of outraging the modesty of women reduced by 20% (1,004 to 803). Harassment cases fell marginally by 1%. However, dowry deaths rose from 11 to 13 cases during the year. Kidnapping of women reduced by 10%.
Police commissioner’s remarks
Anand said: “The Hyderabad City Police have worked together as a team to safeguard peace and security, achieving good results. Festivals, processions and public meetings are being conducted peacefully without disturbances. We have proved that with collective effort, we can achieve anything. Let us continue with the same spirit and work towards making Hyderabad a ‘crime-free city’.”
The crime review meeting was attended by additional commissioners, joint commissioners, deputy commissioners of police from all zones, and senior officers heading cybercrime, women’s safety, special branches and traffic wings.
