Hyderabad: In an imaginative initiative, citizens of Hyderabad have expressed their wish for the introduction of fun and creative bus stops designed to appeal to children. Inspired by innovative designs seen in Japan, including fruit-shaped bus stops, the idea has gained attention on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

User Malakpet Diaries (@MalakpetD) reached out to the GHMC Commissioner and the managing director of TGSRTC, suggesting that such playful concepts could be implemented in the city. The tweet stated, “Japan has always come up with innovative ideas. @CommissionrGHMC Sir, can we have these kinds of bus stops for kids in some places? It would be nice. @tgsrtcmdoffice @TGSRTCHQ, please see if there is any possibility.”

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Ashwini, a parent, expressed enthusiasm for the idea, saying, “Such creative and fun ideas! Fruit-shaped bus stops would be a great attraction for kids and families in Hyderabad and across Telangana. Imagine vibrant bus stops like these at places such as Necklace Road, Lumbini Park, NTR Gardens, Zoo Park, Shilparamam, and amusement parks across the city!”

She further added, “They would encourage more people, especially children, to use public transport and make our public spaces more engaging.” She also asked the officials, “Could we explore implementing similar concepts at these popular spots?”

Another resident, Sanju, added, “If these kinds of bus stops are implemented, they will definitely be fun and attractive. Colourful and cute designs would make the streets more aesthetic and could inspire more kids to choose public transport.”

Ajith Nair said, "These fruit-based theme bus stops will motivate and encourage kids and parents to board buses proactively. They would bring a sense of happiness and joy for them to sit and spend time. So GHMC and TGSRTC should consider a trial basis at some identified locations. After observing a good response and usage, they can increase the number in other areas."

While the idea is seen as fun and appealing, some concerns remain regarding its feasibility in Hyderabad, given the city's population density and chronic traffic management issues. The hope is that local authorities will consider this innovative suggestion and explore the possibility of making public transport more engaging for young riders.
