20-year-old man gets 20-year RI for raping minor in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A fast-track special court at LB Nagar in the city on Tuesday sentenced a 20-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Earlier, the court found K Mahesh alias Bunny guilty of raping a minor girl at Chaitanyapuri in 2023. Mahesh, a construction worker, a native of Suryapet district, a resident of the same locality, allegedly locked up the minor girl in her own home taking advantage of her parents absence. He then subjected the minor to sexual abuse and criminal acts.
Following the incident, the parents filed a complaint with the Chaitanyapuri police who then registered a case and arrested Mahesh. He was charged under Sections 376(AB), 376(2)(f), and 324 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with Sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act.
The fast-track special court has imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on the convict while ordering a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to the victim for her rehabilitation.
In February, 2025, the same court had delivered a similar verdict in a POCSO case reported at Chaitanyapuri the same year in 2023.
A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in the sexual assault case of a minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.
The local court found V Sudhakar of raping a minor girl on the school premises. According to police, Sudhakar, who worked as an attender at a private school, lured the victim and sexually abused her.
