Hyderabad: Passengers miffed as buses skip designated stops
Hyderabad: The citizens of Hyderabad have raised significant concerns regarding a growing issue with bus services in the city. Many bus drivers have been bypassing designated bus stops, causing immense inconvenience to the public, especially students who rely on public transport for their daily commute. In response to these complaints, citizens have urged the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to mark bus stops more clearly, helping bus drivers recognise where they need to stop.
The issue was brought to light by Team Road Squad (@Team_Road_Squad) on X (formerly Twitter), who posted, “Dear @TGSRTCHQ, what action will be taken against drivers who do not stop at bus stops? Also, @GHMCOnline, please paint bus bay/bus stop markings as shown below and place signboards. @CommissionrGHMC @HYDTP.”
The tweet gained attention from the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) who responded by asking, “@dmkcgtsrtc, please look into this.”
Many other citizens shared their personal experiences of buses not stopping at designated bus stops. Riyaz (@Riyazuddin555) pointed out an issue in Tolichowki, saying, “In Tolichowki, near Galaxy Theatre, buses don’t stop at the bus stop. They stop on the main road. This is one department that can't be developed because there is no one in the entire state who can take action on bus drivers. Even the RTC department can't take action against them.”
Kumar Shastri (@kmshastri1) shared his observation near Gandhi Hospital, “I’ve seen many buses doing this. Opposite Gandhi Hospital, due to a U-turn, buses don’t enter the bus bay and stop in the middle of the road, creating a blockade-like situation with no space for vehicles going straight or wanting to take a U-turn.”
Mannila Kiran (@MannilaK) expressed similar concerns, stating, “Very true. I have experienced this at the Tarnaka bus stop opposite Sanghi Vidyaniketan. What is the purpose of RTC service?”
Loan Worrier (Cinemaniac99) highlighted the issue in Jubilee Hills, saying, “No bus will stop at Road No. 36, Jubilee Hills bus stop (the one opposite Tonique).” Another citizen (@SaiVard00296283) pointed out the problem in Erragada, stating, “@TGSRTCHQ?? Buses won’t stop at the Erragada bus stop too.”
The citizens have called for immediate action from the concerned authorities to address this recurring issue and ensure that public transport services are reliable and convenient for all commuters.
