HYDERABAD: Osmania University police arrested a 30-year-old physiotherapist for allegedly committing a house burglary and recovered gold jewellery weighing about 14.5 thulas.

The accused, Marneni Bala Dheeraj, son of Marneni Chinnaiah, a resident of Karthekaya Nagar, Nacharam, was apprehended on October 6, 2025, from Tarnaka in connection with Crime No. 426/2025 registered under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Osmania University police station. Police said Dheeraj had previously been involved in an attempted theft case registered at Thapachabutra police station in 2013.

Family away when burglary occurred

According to the complaint, the incident took place on the night of September 27, 2025, when the complainant and his family were away at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, to drop their son and daughter-in-law. Upon returning home around 00.30 IST on September 28, the complainant found the bedroom ransacked and valuables missing.

The stolen property included four gold bracelets (6 thulas), six pairs of earrings (2.5 thulas), two pairs of diamond earrings (2 thulas), and four mangalsutras (4 thulas)—totalling 14.5 thulas of gold—along with ₹10,000 in cash. Police said the entire stolen property was recovered intact.

Arrest and investigation

The accused was arrested following a search operation led by Detective Inspector S. Ravi Kumar and his team, under the supervision of Inspector M. Appala Naidu and the guidance of Assistant Commissioner of Police G. Jagan. The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of East Zone DCP B. Balaswamy, IPS, and Additional DCP J. Narsaiah.

Police said the accused confessed to the crime during interrogation. His modus operandi involved committing house burglaries by night. Officials appreciated the investigation team for their prompt action and said rewards would be given for their efforts.
