Hyderabad braces for heavy rains, Cyberabad Traffic police urges early logout for employees
Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting moderate to heavy rainfall across the city over the next 24 hours, prompting authorities to recommend early office closures to avoid travel disruptions.
According to IMD updates, Hyderabad is likely to experience dry weather until noon, followed by intense rainfall between 1 PM and 11 PM. Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours (25-55 mm) are expected in several areas, with light to moderate showers continuing overnight. The late afternoon and evening hours may see the heaviest spells, potentially causing waterlogging and traffic delays.
Cyberabad Traffic Police advises early logouts
In light of the forecast, the Cyberabad Traffic Police have urged companies to facilitate early logouts for employees from 3 PM onwards to ensure safety and minimize congestion. The Cyberabad Traffic Police issued a public notice stating, "With heavy rainfall predicted for this evening, we advise all companies and employees to plan staggered early logouts starting from 3:00 PM." This will help reduce traffic disruptions and allow smooth movement for emergency services."
High-level review meeting held
Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, the Hyderabad in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar chaired a high-level meeting with GHMC officials.
Some of the key discussions included clearing water stagnation points in low-lying areas, deploying pumps in flood-prone zones, intensifying the cleaning of nalas and stormwater drains, and implementing traffic diversions in vulnerable stretches.
24x7 control room activated
The GHMC control room is operating round the clock to coordinate emergency responses. Officials assured that all departments are on high alert, with teams monitoring waterlogging hotspots and addressing public grievances promptly. Citizens have been advised to follow real-time updates via GHMC’s social media channels and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.
Some of the precautionary measures suggested by the GHMC for citizens include avoiding waterlogged underpasses and low-lying areas, checking traffic advisories before commuting, and reporting emergencies to the GHMC’s helpline (040-21111111).
The others who attended the meeting included Mayor Smt. Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath, and HMWSSB MD K. Ashok Reddy to assess monsoon preparedness.
