57 Hyderabad bakeries raided; 32 samples sent to Nacharam Lab for testing
Hyderabad: Acting on the instructions of the GHMC Commissioner on June 20, 2025, Food Safety Officers are conducting surprise inspections of bakeries across various circles in the city. So far, 57 bakeries have been inspected, and 32 food samples have been sent to the State Food Laboratory in Nacharam for analysis. The inspection drive is ongoing.
Food Business Operators (FBOs) have been directed to maintain hygiene, ensure proper food labeling with preparation dates and shelf life, and keep premises clean.
Common violations observed include failure to display the mandatory FSSAI license, absence of “Best Before” or “Use By” dates on products, open dustbins, housefly infestations, food waste littered on the floor, lack of health records and water analysis reports, and food handlers working without hairnets.
Notices are being issued under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and Rules, 2011. Major violations will be taken up for adjudication.
Earlier, on June 14, 2025, GHMC’s Vigilance and Food Safety teams inspected a food manufacturing unit in Golkonda Killa following a complaint. The unit, operated by M.D. Althaf, was found operating without valid trade and food licenses and in violation of food safety standards. Authorities sealed the premises in accordance with applicable regulations.
In a separate drive on June 11, 2025, GHMC officials carried out surprise inspections at 69 sweet shops across Hyderabad. Multiple violations were recorded, and notices were issued to erring establishments. Shop owners were instructed to maintain hygiene, ensure accurate food labeling, and comply with regulatory norms.
Ten sweet shops were found operating without valid FSSAI licenses, violating Section 31(1) of the FSS Act. These establishments were ordered to suspend operations until proper licenses are obtained.
