Hyderabad Airport assures public of normal operations, issues travel advisory
Hyderabad: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, issued a travel advisory at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, assuring the public that airport operations remain normal. However, authorities cautioned that certain flight schedules may be impacted due to evolving airspace conditions and enhanced security measures.
Travellers have been advised to follow all baggage guidelines and prepare for longer wait times at security checkpoints. Passengers are also urged to cooperate with security and airline personnel to ensure smooth procedures.
The advisory recommends checking real-time flight information via the airport’s official website or directly with airlines. Effective immediately, parking at the airport is limited to 24 hours until further notice.
RGIA explained the importance of relying only on verified sources for updates and warned against spreading or acting on unverified information.
Earlier in the day, a bomb threat email sent to the official airport account caused panic among staff and passengers. The message, allegedly from an unidentified individual claiming ties to a terror sleeper cell, warned of an imminent attack and criticized the state government's response.
Airport authorities immediately informed the Central Industrial Security Force, local police, and bomb disposal units. A full-scale inspection was carried out across the premises. No explosives were found during the search.
Officials confirmed the threat was likely a hoax aimed at creating fear and disruption. RGIA police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the sender. Amid ongoing tensions at the borders between India and Pakistan, security at the airport has been significantly tightened.
