Huppuguda Railway Station in Hyderabad gets Rs. 26.8 crore upgrade; Completion by 2025 end
Hyderabad: Huppuguda Railway Station, located in the Falaknuma–Kacheguda section of the Hyderabad Division under South Central Railway (SCR), is undergoing major redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) with an estimated cost of ₹26.81 crore.
The suburban Grade-3 station, situated in the southern part of Hyderabad, serves around 5,000 passengers daily. It is an important stop for commuters travelling to the western parts of the city such as Hi-tech City and Lingampalli, primarily for work and business. Around 50 trains, including suburban services, halt at this station each day.
The redevelopment work, targeted for completion by December 2025, is progressing at a steady pace. The project includes the construction of a new station façade, development of a station building near the second entry, and improvement of the circulating area.
A 12-metre foot overbridge is being added for easier movement between platforms. To enhance accessibility, two passenger lifts and two escalators are being installed. The platform surfaces are being upgraded, and additional roofing is being provided for better shelter.
Renovation of the interiors of the concourse and waiting halls is also part of the plan, along with the construction of toilets for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities) and installation of new signage and furniture.
Significant progress has already been made, including the completion of improvements to the waiting halls and the launching of girders for the foot overbridge. Parking sheds and the compound wall are nearing completion, while installation work for the lifts and escalators is currently underway.
Huppuguda is one of 40 stations across Telangana being redeveloped under the ABSS, which involves a total estimated investment of ₹2,750 crore. The initiative received a boost when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for the redevelopment of stations in the state during events held in August 2023 and February 2024. Recently, three redeveloped stations, Begumpet, Warangal, and Karimnagar, were inaugurated under the scheme.
