Telangana HRC flags Gauthami and Sultan-ul-Uloom Colleges

Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has directed two private colleges in Hyderabad to release students’ original certificates and summoned their managements for enquiry after complaints of non-compliance.

Case of Gauthami Degree College

In one case , the Commission instructed Gauthami Degree College, Balanagar, to hand over the original documents and issue a Transfer Certificate to a BBA graduate. The college had withheld the certificates citing pending Government scholarship reimbursement. The Commission held that retaining students’ academic records on such grounds violated the Right to Education under Article 21 and amounted to infringement of human rights. The Chairman and Principal of the college have been directed to appear before the Commission on August 28, 2025. Copies of the order were also sent to the District Collector, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and the Telangana State Council of Higher Education for compliance.

Sultan-ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy Case

In another matter , the Commission recorded non-compliance by Sultan-ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy, Banjara Hills, of its earlier order dated August 21, 2025. The college had been told to return the original certificates of 17 students. Today, ten complainants informed the Commission that the order had not been implemented. Taking note, the Commission directed issuance of summons to the Chairman and Principal of the college to appear on August 28 at 11 AM for enquiry. The Commission reiterated that withholding academic records amounts to denial of educational and career opportunities and warned that non-compliance with its orders would attract serious action.
