In a press release, the water board’s managing director, Ashok Reddy, requested that people use the OTS scheme to clear their long overdue water bills. He said consumers will get a concession on late fee and interest if they clear the principal amount.

“This is a good opportunity to clear the bad debts that have accumulated for a long time. The OTS scheme, which started on October 1, will be valid till October 31,” HMWSSB stated.

Consumers call customer care number 155313 to clarify their doubts about the OTS scheme, the release added.

Earlier this month, in a major relief to the water consumers in the Greater Hyderabad limits, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) had announced the “One-Time Settlement” (OTS) scheme to enable the defaulters clear their outstanding water bills. Under this scheme, the consumers can settle their dues without paying any interest or late fee before October 31, 2024.

As the requests to the water consumers defaulters to clear their outstanding bills did not yield any result, the Water Board has come up with this initiative to recover over Rs. 300 crore arrears from nearly 3.75 lakh consumers.

Consumers who have not availed such a benefit in the past can expect a 100 percent waiver on interest and late payment fee while those who have benefited from previous OTS schemes will only get a 50 percent waiver.
