HMDA evacuates 32 shops in Saroor Nagar complex over structural risks

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority(HMDA) vacated the 32 shops in Saroor Nagar Commercial Complex on Tuesday due to structural damage beyond repair posing a risk.

In a statement released by the HMDA, it was stated that the Saroor Nagar Commercial Complex has (32) Shops/Blocks built by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority in 1981. They have been leased to various people, but the lease lapsed in 2008. The shops are dilapidated condition and structurally poor, likely to collapse, posing potential threat to the lives of the occupants and the others around.

The Department of Civil Engineering, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad submitted a conclusive report stating that the quality of concrete of the buildings is very poor and the building is beyond repair and restoration,” read the statement released by HMDA. In this regard, HMDA issued notices to allottees to vacate the shops.

Aggrieved by the notices, the allottees approached the High Court. However, as per the High Court orders and the Public Premises Act (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1971, after issuing the notices U/s 4 of the Act, the eviction orders were issued by the Estate Officer, HMDA, U/s 5(1). Despite several counseling rounds, the occupants have not yet vacated the shops.

Under the above circumstances, it is proposed to vacate the commercial complex on 11 February 2025, as it is detrimental to the life and safety of occupants and public at large.
