Hyderabad: Due to heavy rainfall in its catchment area, the Himayatsagar reservoir is witnessing a significant rise in water levels, prompting authorities to release water downstream. As a precautionary measure, three gates have been lifted to manage the inflow.

 According to The Hyderabad metropolitan water supply and sewerage board(HMWSSB)Of the reservoir’s 17 gates, authorities have opened two gates Gate No. 6 (lifted 3 feet) and Gate No. 12 (lifted 1 foot)—to release excess water.  One more gate will be opened up to 3 feet, releasing an additional 1,400 cusecs into the Musi River.

Due to which the service road at Rajendranagar ORR Exit No. 17 has been closed due to flooding. The Himayatsagar service road will remain shut as a safety precaution during the water release.

Managing Director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSB), Ashok Reddy, has directed officials to stay vigilant and coordinate with the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district administrations, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the police to monitor the situation.

Officials are closely tracking rainfall patterns and inflow rates to decide on further releases. Residents living along the Musi River have been advised to remain cautious.
