Heritage walks in Hyderabad this weekend at Golconda’s Naya Qila and Lal Darwaza
Hyderabad: Two separate heritage walks are scheduled in Hyderabad this weekend, offering unique opportunities to explore the city’s lesser-known historical sites. On Saturday, May 24, The Deccan Archive is organising a Naya Qila Sunset Walk at the Naya Qila annex of Golconda Fort.
The walk begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Naya Qila entrance and concludes at 6:30 p.m. Participants will explore fortifications, Mughal-era cannons, old mosques, and a 400-year-old baobab tree known as Hathiyan Ka Jhaad, believed to have been planted by travellers from Madagascar. The walk will cover structures such as barracks, granaries, and defensive walls, highlighting the architectural and military significance of this part of the fort. Tickets are priced at ₹300 for adults and ₹250 for students. Registration is open at thedeccanarchive.com/event-details.
On Sunday, May 25, another heritage walk is being conducted by Hyderabad Heritage 2024 group from Aliabad Jhanda to Phool Bagh, through Lal Darwaza. This walk focuses on the history of caravanserais and their role in the city’s past. It will run from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, beginning at Karachi Bakery, Aliabad. The nearest metro station is MGBS.
The walk will cover sites in the Phool Bagh area and explore stories connected to historic rest houses and trade routes. The fee is ₹250 for professionals and ₹100 for students, inclusive of entry charges. Participants are advised to carry a scarf or handkerchief for respectful access to certain sites. Although clear weather is expected, an umbrella or raincoat is recommended as a precaution. For details on the Lal Darwaza walk, contact 91-9834881747.
