Hyderabad: In a tragic incident late on the night of May 24, a head constable lost his life and three other police personnel sustained injuries when a speeding truck crashed into a police patrol vehicle on the Hyderabad-Bangalore National Highway near Shamshabad in the Rangareddy district.
Head Constable Vijay Kumar died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. The three injured constables were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where one of them is reported to be in critical condition. According to the preliminary investigation, the accident was caused by the truck driver’s rash and negligent driving. Authorities confirmed that the driver has been arrested and a case has been registered. The Shamshabad Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
The incident has cast a shadow over the city’s ongoing efforts to strengthen traffic management and road safety. Just a day before the accident, the Cyberabad Police held a high-level meeting to discuss enhanced strategies for traffic regulation and accident prevention. The meeting, chaired by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Gajarao Bhupal, focused on detailed analysis of road accident data collected between January and April this year.
During the session, officials identified multiple accident-prone zones, including segments of the Outer Ring Road (ORR), and marked them as black spots. Instructions were given to install visible signage, barricades, and other safety measures in these vulnerable areas to minimize road mishaps and fatalities. The officials also noted a surge in pedestrian-related accidents and discussed urgent interventions such as improving pedestrian crossings and implementing barricading where necessary. The Joint Commissioner emphasized the importance of conducting monthly review meetings with all traffic divisions to ensure consistent monitoring and evaluation of traffic safety measures.
In a separate incident on the same day, a car accident was reported from the upscale Jubilee Hills area in Hyderabad. A speeding vehicle lost control and crashed into a divider on Road Number 45. The youth behind the wheel escaped unhurt thanks to the deployment of the car’s airbags. However, he fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Police suspect that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Jubilee Hills Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the individual.
